We engaged this mover, SKML Packers and Movers to move household goods from Vizag to Mysuru. I was busy getting some work done on the flat in Mysuru so I sent my wife, who is a very capable lady, to Vizag to oversee the packing and loading of the household goods. They take 80% of the total moving costs upfront, so you don't have a leg to stand on if things go awry. Unfortunately, the only part of the entire move that was satisfactory was the front end packing and loading. Once the goods left Vizag, THE ABSOLUTE WORST NIGHTMARE OF OUR LIVES BEGAN. The delivery truck driver, PRASHANT (photo attached), was the driver from hell. He kept calling at all odd hours asking for money because he had run out of fuel. When I asked him to contact the owner, Mr. Eshwar Rao, to discuss his money issues, he said the owner was "out" and since the owner was out of reach he said he would not be able to continue the trip until the money was sent to him. I said fine, so be it as I wasn't going to send him any money. Two days after he was supposed to deliver in Mysuru, my wife gets a call AT MIDNIGHT, saying he is in Mysuru AND TO ARRANGE FOR THE UNLOADING OF THE GOODS! AT MIDNIGHT? There was no way we could do this but I said I would be there first thing in the morning and went to the flat (we had not moved in to the flat yet) at 6AM the next morning. THEN BEGAN THE REAL NIGHTMARE. The driver was furious that I, THE CUSTOMER, HAD NOT ENGAGED ANY LABOR TO DO THE UNLOADING AND UNPACKING. I was stunned. I had never expected to pay all that money upfront and then additionally, also supply the labor. And that was when things unraveled a lot. The driver claimed he DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHO ESHWAR RAO WAS, when we had pictures of both of them when the truck was being loaded!! Unfortunately, such open faced lies and deceit never ends well. After an hour + wait, Eshwar Rao arranged the labor to unload and unpack and that went very smoothly. All credit to these folks for doing this very efficiently and without any fuss. However, my question to Eshwar Rao was why didn't he and the driver co-ordinate this simple activity? According to Eshwar Rao, the labor was ready the previous day but since the truck didn't show up they all left for the day without any instructions on when to return. This is the kind of operation Eshwar Rao runs, where basic co-ordination is lacking between the company and its driver. But the driver from hell wasn't done yet - if you can believe that. I was finally having a meal after nearly 5 hours of dealing with this nightmare, WHEN I GET A CALL FROM SOMEONE WHO SAID HE WAS THE SECRETARY OF THE MYSURU TRUCK DRIVERS ASSOCIATION. He said the driver, Prashant had complained to him that I threatened to beat him and he, the secretary, was all set to come after me God only knows to do what! Turned out Prashant hadn't been paid yet by Eshwar Rao (no idea how that was supposed to work as I had already transferred the remaining 20% to him). THIS IS WHAT WE HAD TO DEAL WITH. After conversing with Eshwar Rao, the driver confirmed payment and I thought at last, now the nightmare has ended. WELL, THERE WAS ONE FINAL TWIST. The driver, PRASHANT, calls me up AFTER ALL THIS, AND AFTER CLAIMING HE HAD NO IDEA WHO ISHWAR RAO WAS, and has the nerve to tell me that Ishwar Rao had instructed me to give him, Prashant, a 500 Rs. tip!!!!!! And that is after complaining to his union that I came to beat him, when I did no such thing. Sure, I will give him a tip on top of that???? When I flatly refused and told him to take this complaint to his union as well, he cursed me in no uncertain terms and finally left. We never got an answer from Eshwar Rao on why he assigned PRASHANT TO US - probably because it was my wife who was managing the move and he thought if things went bad, a lady customer would be easier to deal with. In summary - 1) We got a moving company that did not coordinate with it's driver at all and 2) A driver from hell who spared no effort to make life miserable for us. We will never do business with this company ever again.
